Within the framework of Order No. 416-A of the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Armenia, dated July 4, 2008, "On approving the program and schedule for implementing measures to ensure the preservation and safety of historical and cultural monuments in the areas required for the operation of the Teghut deposit," excavations were carried out in the Teghut mining zone between 2009 and 2017. These excavations confirmed that the area is densely populated with archaeological sites from various eras. The discovered industrial sites and burial grounds indicate that settlements from corresponding periods must exist nearby, the discovery of which is another crucial objective for the archaeological study of the region.
Based on the above, as of July 1, 2021, the "Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography" SNCO of the National Academy of Sciences of the RA has resumed archaeological research, excavations, and necessary preservation works for the historical and cultural monuments located within the territory of "Teghut" CJSC.
Further excavations of these archaeological monuments will provide the opportunity to complete the primary sources necessary for the reconstruction of the ancient past and history, not only of Armenia but of the entire Transcaucasus.
